Have you noticed yourself wanting different foods now that we're in the heart of winter? If so give yourself a little pat on the back for being tuned in.

Ancient Ayurvedic wisdom reminds us that winter is Kapha season. Kapha season embodies moist, cold, dull, soft, sticky and static qualities.

This means that to maintain a balance in our system we want to streer away from foods + activities that also hold these same qualities.


One way we can achieve balance in the winter is by eating foods that are drying, stimulating and warming. Sweet, bitter and astringent tastes are the ideal candidates for the job.

Choosing to line yourself up with these Ayurvedic principles can lead to more health, less sickness and a lower chance of disease because it guides you towards a diet and lifestyle that counter balances what is already naturally occuring. The logic is that too much of a good thing....is not a good thing.

For example, we are already surrounded by moist, cold snow in the winter, so having a cold milky drink will enhance those qualities more and make us shiver and feel heavy. Our bodies then have to work really hard to get us feeling comfortable again.
