Waste Management - Colonics (Part 2)
I know, I know. Eww. Gross. That's weird.
But, we've got to talk about it. It's a cultural freak out that we must get over because we're sacrificing our health.
When we experience health it's easier to see the good in ourselves and in the world.
We raise our body's vibration. We change the frequency of our waking consciousness to one that is more resonant with nature. When we resonate with what is natural we avoid disease and disorder.
So, lay back on the massage table with me and let's go through this thing.
Below are questions that I was asked by friends and family after I went through my first three sessions.
Why sign up to have a tube inserted Into your tush?
Well, that's a fabulous question. I had just registered for my annual fall cleanse and was browsing through the pre-cleanse packet. I noticed the part about the enemas and colonics and had flashbacks to spring - decking out my bathroom into a detox ashram (laptop with Netflix included), trying to do the at home enemas. Truthfully, I hated the process, but liked the result of having a more clean colon.
That was enough to get me googling "colon hydrotherapy jackson hole" and in a flash I had signed myself (and my hubby!) up for a series of three colon hydrotherapy sessions to really move out the toxins.
But mainly the reason is this...
I know a descent amount about disease and how it manifests. More importantly, I know a large number of disease occurs because of improper function of the colon. So, I would rather have a tube stuck up my tush for a few hours each year than fight disease for a decade.
How long does this puppy last?
45 min - 1 hr
What happens?
Approximately 15 gallons of filtered water is gently infused into the colon using a disposable speculum (tube about 1/2" wide). The speculum allows for the insertion of filtered water and the removal of waste - all while you're laying down. No real effort or movement is required on your part.
The speculum is inserted (with the aid of the therapist - so, yes, the therapist sees your butt for a second) into the rectum about two inches into the rectal canal. Yeah, there's nothing great about that part.
Then, a gentle flow of water runs through the tube and into your colon. This creates contractions of the colon muscles (peristalsis). The water breaks down the waste, which then exits the body back through the speculum. Over subsequent visits, the entire length of the colon can be cleansed this way. The therapist monitors the water temperature and waste as it exits the body.
Yep, you read that last part right. The waste coming out of your colon can be seen through a clear tube. This may sound gross to you, but after a while I found it intriguing to know what was coming out. My therapist explained how one can tell a great deal by simply observing the waste—including information about the patient’s bodily health, dietary lifestyle and what may be causing the issue or issues at hand.
Gentle massage is applied to the abdomen between the fills of water to help loosen impacted material for a more complete elimination.
During session three we added a chlorophyll implant to the mix which has it's own set of extra benefits.
At the end of each session I was given a probiotic to help repopulate the colon with good bacteria.
Am I naked?
No. For personal comfort, people keep their bodies covered during the session. I was given a hospital gown like garment that was open in the back and a blanket. I didn't wear anything underneath the garment so the therapist could massage my belly.
How do I prepare?
To prevent cramping during the session, AVOID ALCOHOL COMPLETELY. To increase chances for success in each session, avoid bread, pasta, coffee and heavy meals. Fruit, vegetables, and grains are good choices to eat. Drink plenty of water, fresh juice and non-caffeinated tea.
But, it's wise to refrain from eating or drinking anything two hours prior to the colonic. Your personal therapist can advise you further and talk to you about what to eat following the colonic session.
How much does it cost?
$100 per session or $270 for a series of three
Obviously prices will vary depending on where you are and who you go to.
How often should I do this?
In the beginning I was told it’s best to do a series of three, but the number of treatments you’ll need really depends on the condition of your colon. Once the initial cleansing process is complete, colonics need only be used for maintenance, upkeep, and spring cleaning.
Ok, those are all of the nitty gritty details. See, it's not sooo bad is it? Leave a comment below if you have anything to add to this conversation!
