Whether you're a person going on a work-related trip, a friend going to a wedding, a family member heading home for the holidays, or a seeker looking for your next mind-blowing experience, you have a choice about taking your healthy lifestyle on the road with you. Being in the middle of bum f@ck nowhere doesn't mean you have to let the stuff that supports your well-being go out the window. Check out these hot tips & practices that help me when I'm on the go - because planning ahead is the key:

1. Ground yourself. Ground yourself along the way to balance out the natural feeling of spontaneity that comes up when you travel. My ayurveda teacher, Cate Stillman, recommends setting an intention to stick to two grounding practices a day while you're away. Without these we're more susceptible to catching a bug and to having less energy to do all stuff the we've traveled to do. Some ideas are:
3. Be local. When you get where you're going, go ahead and try eating what is local and in season. Wander through a farmer's market and pick up fresh produce for a healthy lunch or snack.

- 10 sun salutations each morning
- 20 minutes of meditation before bed
- Take a walk after dinner
- Drink tea instead of coffee or caffeine

Hot Tips
1. Be appy. Download a couple of apps on your phone or ipad to help you locate vegan & raw food restaurants in the area and also to help you meditate. Do a quick google search to scout out activities, places, people, etc that will keep you on track.
2. Green drinks. Sticking to your one-a-day green juice routine is awesome, but if you can't get a green juice, this tasty powder by Amazing Grasses is your next best option. They offer it in tubs or single use packs. Buy some to take with you.
3. The Magic Bullet blender is perfect for taking on the road. Stuff it into your luggage or pack it in the car. Don't worry about what to eat in the hotel room or at in your in-laws have blender. Just be on the lookout for local, organic produce (or pack some, of course) to pop into the bullet and you're off and running.
4. Yoga Mat. Find a way to bring your yoga mat. Purchase a travel mat if need be. Even a few minutes of yoga a day will make you feel lighter and brighter. You could also call your hotel in advance to see if they have a gym.
5. Drink hot water. Bring a thermos and sip on hot water, with lemon if you like, throughout your trip AND especially on the airplane. This will help you stay hydrated and keep your digestive system happy.
6. Restaurant Substitutions. Kris Carr reminds us that asking for the restaurant to meet your dietary needs does not make you annoying – it’s HOW you ask that counts. It's ok to politely ask the waiter to change a salad dressing or pull a side from a different entrée. It's not ok to be demanding and rude. Charm makes a huge difference. FYI, ethnic restaurants always have the best options. Also, it's not a bad idea to skip the food on an airplane. It's generally crappy and eating while flying can make ya constipated. Refer to #5 and stay really hydrated.
7. Deep tissue massage. There's nothing better after a full day of planes, trains, and cars than a deep tissue massage. Call and schedule yourself one before you leave town.
8. Waste-free. Check out To-go Ware for keeping your snacks and meals more waste-free. This way you can also chow down anywhere you want.
9. Chlorella. David Wolfe, raw food guru, has been talking a lot about chlorella lately because of the recent happenings in Japan. It's a superfood supplement that helps detox radiation. Whether in it's powder form or a pill, pop some in your body after flying for good measure.
